Big companies switch to SAF-T

Bulgarian businesses are facing another important step in the digital transformation process - from 1 January 2026, large taxpayers will be required to submit data to the NRA in an electronic SAF-T format. This became clear from official information published by the revenue agency in early June 2025, marking the beginning of the actual implementation of this international standard in the country. In addition, the public consultation on the project ended at the beginning of this month and all the comments and suggestions received from businesses and professional organizations have already been considered by the administration. SAF-T in Bulgaria: More Transparency & Efficiency

SAF-T, developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is an international standard for the unified exchange of accounting and tax data. It has already been implemented in countries such as France, Romania and Portugal, where the standard has proven effective in improving transparency and reducing administrative burden. The SAF-T format covers key accounting data such as complete accounting history, invoices, assets, receivables and payables, which are submitted in a standardised XML format.
